Scott City R-1 Family,

I hope this letter finds you and your family doing well and staying healthy during these trying times. As you may already be aware, Governor Parsons announced on Thursday, November 12, 2020 modifications to the state guidance related to identifying close contacts in a school setting.

Due to the modifications in the state guidance, Scott City R-1 School District is implementing a mask mandate to decrease the number of students being quarantined for being a close contact to a person diagnosed with COVID-19.

If a person diagnosed with COVID-19 and a person identified as a close contact are both wearing a mask appropriately during the time of exposure in the school setting, the close contact would not need to be quarantined.

As a district we fully understand the importance and benefits of students receiving in person instructional time and feel the modifications to the state guidance (mask mandate) will reduce the number of students being placed in quarantine.

More information regarding the modifications from our Governor can be found on our school website in our "Return-to-School" plan.

Sincerely,
Michael Umfleet - Superintendent of Schools
